Ray Hanania is an award winning political reporter and columnist and Chicago morning radio talkshow host who began in journalism covering Chicago's City Hall from 1976 until 1992. Named "Best Ethnic American Columnist" in Nov. 2006 by the New America Media, Hanania is one of only a few professional Palestinian Arab American journalists. A member of the Society of Professional Journalists, serving on the diversity committee, and the Asian American Journalists Association, serving on the Media Watch Committee, Hanania is also a coordinator of the National Arab American Journalists Association (NAAJA).

Hanania is the recipient of three SPJ "Lisagor Awards" for column writing, and is a seven-time finalist. He is the political columnist for the Chicago Southwest News-Herald Newspaper. You can hear his morning radio show Monday thru Friday on WJJG 1530 AM Radio from 8 am until 9:30.

After Sept. 11, 2001, Hanania expanded his communication entering standup comedy. Although there is humor in the Arab World, there is very little standup comedy which is as much about commentary and satire as it is entertainment. He is by far the Palestinian diaspora's funniest "moderate" standup comedian. He is the co-founder of the Israeli-Palestinian Standup Comedy Tour which has caused him to be ostracized by extremists in the Arab and Muslim American community.

Hanania is also the author of the humor book I'm Glad I Look Like a Terrorist: Growing up Arab in America (1996) and Arabs of Chicagoland, (2005) a history of Chicago's Arab settlement.

The Catastrophe
His most recent book is "The Catastrophe" (2008) which addresses how the extremist secular Arab left and the the fanatic Islamic right have hijacked the Palestinian cause, block peace and prevent Palestinian Statehood. The book details the author's three decades battle with extremists advocating for a moderate view and the cause of the "Two-State Solution" between Israel and Palestine.

Hanania is managing editor of the Arab American Writers Syndicate which features columns by leading Arab American journalists and his unique political cartoons, and managing editor of Arabisto.com. He also authors "Ray Hanania's World" Comic Strips online.

He podcasts Middle East/Arab interviews for the National Arab American Times Newspaper where he is publisher.

A Christian Palestinian, Hanania's wife and son are Jewish. He can be reached at rayhanania@comcast.net or at www.TheMediaOasis.com.

Can Arabs and Jews Come Together for Peace, Rather than Separate for Violence?

Posted January 5, 2009 | 03:26 PM (EST)

Can Jews and Arabs come together as committed to peace as they can gather separately in anger and emotion for revenge?

It's too easy to point a finger at each other and blame each other, saying the other started it. But, is it really that difficult to say that this...

Americans are the most educated people in the world but the least educated in the world. They can't tell the difference between a Palestinian and a Pakistani, and an Iranian and an Indian.

That might explain why the West is so outraged that an Iraqi, who is a journalist, threw...

Muntandar al-Zaidi is a hero for a lot of reasons. First, he didn't resort to violence in the true sense of the Middle East conflict to express himself. Instead, he tapped a deep-rooted Arab cultural expression of disdain to show his objection and protest of President Bush's failed policies in...

Guilt by association is wrong. And arrogance by disassociation and hypocrisy is just as wrong.

It's one thing for the residents of Illinois to sit back and feel discouraged by the tragic events of the past 24 hours, watching as U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and FBI Director Robert Grant outlined...

Ever since Sept. 11, 2001, Arabs, Muslims and anyone who looks Middle Eastern have been the targets of animosity from mainstream Americans who have misdirected their anger about the terrorist attacks against innocent people.

And ever since terrorists from a small extremist corner of the Islamic world destroyed the World...

Obama's Growing Pro-Israel Cabinet Should Not Worry Allies of Just Peace

Like all Arab Americans, I was disturbed when Barack Obama selected U.S. Senator Joseph Biden as his running mate.

Biden's appointment was clearly intended as a signal to put Jewish American and pro-Israel voters at ease. It was designed to counter the concerns raised by the hatemongering campaign against Obama...

The Bush administration will start a war for oil. And one week before a presidential election, with his Republican party's candidate waning in the polls, the Bush Administration will also start a war for politics.

That's exactly what took place this weekend when, in separate incidents, American military forces struck...

The Bush administration moved to prevent Jeff Mazon from making a defense that would most certainly shift the blame from charges he took a bribe in the management of a war-related fuel contract to the more important questionable track record of his former employer, Halliburton.
