Let Big Oil Bail Out the Auto Industry

Posted December 9, 2008 | 02:17 PM (EST)

Seems like such a simple solution, doesn't it? After all, who has influenced the US Auto Industry (USAI) to keep MPG low and fight CAFE standards? Why does the rest of the developed world have advanced technologies that the USAI can't seem to bring to the US? If we have...

There is No Such Thing as a Christian Democracy

There is no such thing as a Christian Democracy. There is no such thing as a Muslim Democracy or a Jewish Democracy either (or a solely Heterosexual one, for that matter). True Democracy means True Equality and no religion sees itself as equal to all the others (and they feel...

The Problem with Education

4 Comments | Posted October 27, 2008 | 04:07 PM (EST)

A government who educates its people serves to sharpen a blade that may ultimately do it in, while the government who under-educates their population seeks to create a docile flock that is easily misled and controlled. They want people smart, but not too smart. Ignorance breeds hate, which we're seeing...

VP Matters Because Cheney Changed the Game

4 Comments | Posted October 26, 2008 | 05:26 PM (EST)

Amidst charges of sexism and the media being too liberal, Sarah Palin is being questioned and vetted by an anxious public and a hopefully awakening media. This wouldn't have been so important had it not been for one person: Dick Cheney. Even when Gore was VP, the public didn't dig...

Where Was McCain's Flag Pin?

5 Comments | Posted October 16, 2008 | 07:28 PM (EST)

Seeing as how the Republicans make a big stink about people wearing flag pins to show their patriotism, it was a curious omission to McCain's wardrobe. Maybe after his POW ordeal, his patriotism is so unquestionable that he can boldly eschew the flag pin? Either way, didn't sink or save...

The Ten Percenters

4 Comments | Posted October 12, 2008 | 03:41 PM (EST)

The most recent Newsweek poll says that while a whopping 86 percent of voters say they are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States, 10 percent of voters say they are satisfied. Not accounting for the 4 percent who were perhaps too dumbfounded to speak, who...

Defining a Maverick

15 Comments | Posted October 6, 2008 | 09:01 PM (EST)

Merriam-Webster Dictonary defines a "maverick" as "an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party." How does this apply when you've voted with your party 90% of the time?

In the VP debate, Sarah Palin claimed that Barack Obama is "partisan" because he voted with...

Many people are talking about what VP choices await Barack Obama if he becomes President and certainly, there are some great ones out there. But let's look one step further to Obama's Cabinet and whom he would put in charge of different areas of our country. These are just ideas,...

What Makes People So Susceptible to Fascism?

Posted December 24, 2007 | 11:44 AM (EST)

It is a profound question with a myriad of answers and few solutions: What makes people so susceptible to fascism? Who are those flag-waving throngs cheering on their proud leader? And why do they cheerfully support a figurehead and system that works against their own self-interests? Are they gullible, naive...

Lawsuits I'd Like to See, Part 2: Obese Child Sues Their Parents

Posted November 15, 2007 | 06:56 PM (EST)

Of all the things that change our culture in America, lawsuits seem to mark some of the biggest turning points. Think Brown vs. Board of Education or Roe vs. Wade as two examples. And so it goes that the only thing that could change the growing epidemic of obesity is...

You want to screw the government? Live as long as you can and collect Social Security. But make sure you're obese so you can put an extra strain on Medicare. I know it's hard to live long when you're obese, but if you put down the cigarettes and alcohol, you...

If Madeleine McCann was Black, Would the Media Care?

Posted September 28, 2007 | 11:37 AM (EST)

Madeleine McCann, who you've no doubt heard has been missing over in Europe, is a white British four-year-old whose disappearance has sparked a massive global media focus. Front pages of major magazines, top news stories on television and a hunt that has spanned continents. No matter how awful that is,...

More Enemies = Greater Profits

What is the psychology of an administration that creates more enemies? Everybody marvels at how we've somehow created more terrorists out of the Iraqupation yet nobody realizes that may be the truest sign of success for BushCo. Wait, you say- I thought we were supposed to make the US safer...

Rich People Use Bridges Too

Let me start off with a blunt statement: Debt is slavery. When you are in debt to someone/something, you are slave to them until that debt is repaid. Millions of Americans are in debt to credit card companies and cannot get out from under. Everything they own is at risk...

Lawsuits I'd Like to See Part One: Sue the DEA to Prove Nicotine Is Not a Drug

Posted July 13, 2007 | 04:33 PM (EST)

That's right: a lawsuit against the government to prove that Nicotine is NOT a drug. After all, it's not on the DEA's list of scheduled drugs, so what does the DEA consider it to be? Anyone who has ever smoked cigarettes know that Nicotine is a seriously addictive drug. Ever...

You Can't Lose a War that Doesn't Exist

Posted June 28, 2007 | 05:03 PM (EST)

Here's a thought for you: We are not at war in Iraq, therefore we cannot lose or win. We went to "war" with Saddam Hussein; he is dead. All rationale for going into Iraq has proved fraudulent, some of it intentionally so. We are not at war with Iraq and...

Come Out With Your Nukes Up!

Look at a map of the Middle East and find our two main warzones. Iraq on the left, Afghanistan on the right and- hello!- Iran in the middle. And to the south, the Persian Gulf where we've recently sent some more of our naval might to fortify the zone. We've...
