I made a comment earlier on this board about cultural regressive attitudes borne of a kind of psychophantic allegiance to everything and anything western or anglo-saxon. Some folks commented that either the child would be ridiculed in school and that the parents should not have "done this" to their child or that when the child grows up he will have trouble finding a job due to the "unusual" name. I would venture the latter sentiment is coming from some of my brethren in the AA community since I have heard this kind of talk before. As far as the child being ridiculed is concerned that means that something is NOT being taught either in school or the HOME. A Child who is taught respect for other cultures (including names and languages) will not be apt to engage in that behavior. The second concern is coming from that place called fear. Did we not just elect a President with the name Barack Obama? I am not dismissing that there will be racism in the employment arena due to a name/culture but it may not be as bad as one thinks particularly if you have the competence and qualifications to do the job.

After Bonet's spectacular entry, who's ahead in the Hollowoodies' contest for the most awful child names?
