Unlike the Abominable Snowman, scientists say the Spine of the Democratic Party is more than a fairy tale. Incredible as it seems, the legend of Democratic Backbone is based on historical fact.
Jerry and Joe Long, 11.20.2008
An Obama spokesperson was quick to dismiss any thoughts of impaling. Though, off the record, expressed a wish that at some point they might come upon Joe Lieberman in the act of bending over.
Lee Stranahan, 11.18.2008
Speaking for my tiny little chunk of the liberal blogosphere, I don't like Joe Lieberman. I was disgusted by Hillary's campaign. And I couldn't be happier with Obama's decisions.

Beyond every outward thing Joe Lieberman did in Congress in 2008, he finally came out and admitted through his actions that he is exactly what we've always known he is -- a Republican.
Josh Orton, 11.16.2008
Tomorrow, Democrats will vote on whether Joe Lieberman should remain chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs - th...

Obama's early moves to co-opt former adversaries Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman signal a different way of doing business than we've seen over the past 20 years.
Mark Nickolas, 11.14.2008
Sen. Clinton is obviously qualified and I think America would love to see a new government that wasn't simply made-up of cronies but of people with differing viewpoints who come together for the good of the country.
Bob Geiger, 11.14.2008
I understand that it must be incredibly difficult for Senate Democrats to do what they must and deny Joe Lieberman his committee chairmanship. I know it's not easy, so I want to help.
ZP Heller, 11.17.2008
Stripping Lieberman of his committee chairmanships is not about exacting revenge. Lieberman has careened to the right on both foreign and domestic policy issues.
Miles Mogulescu, 11.16.2008
When it comes to Joe Lieberman, my heart yearns for political retribution. But my head says that what matters most is not what he's said in the past but how he votes in the future.
Jane Hamsher, 11.12.2008
While it's one thing for Obama to forgive Lieberman for the gutter tactics that he engaged in on McCain's behalf, it's quite another to let the chairmanship of such an important committee serve as an olive branch.
Lance Simmens, 11.19.2008
We are witnessing the first test of statesmanship from our new leader. We may not readily see it, but he does. What we are getting is exactly what we found so appealing in the first place.
Sherman Yellen, 11.18.2008
It is clear to me that Obama in his infinite Mickey wisdom will not exact revenge against his enemies. I'm the quacking Donald who wants to see Lieberman drawn and quartered and McCain chained to a tape recorder.
Michael Giltz, 11.12.2008
Obama only won by six points in the popular vote, they say. Shouldn't it have been much bigger? Sure he won, but it's not like Obama got a rousing endorsement.

Great article. Too bad we don't have the British system of "no cofidence" votes to foist the likes of Lieberman, Bush, Cheney, et al out of office when they have proven so detrimental to their country and state constituencies. Is there not something to explore in the realm of Homeland Security legislation regarding insurance swindles and/or inadequacies (vis Katrina, and Ike), considering that the chairman of that committee's wife, Mrs. Lieberman, is a lobbyist for the insurance industry?
Barack and the Dems own Joe, now. He is in servitude to the Senate Democratic majority. He is on their short and tight leash. He cannot vote against soon-to-be President Obama and the Senate leadership on any thing important because if he does his chair position will be yanked in a flash, and he knows it.
The Godfather said " Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer." How better to insure that all of his actions are very visible and so that he can be watched every minute.
Hey Joe,
I really hope you turn- coat again in 2012 and buddy up with Palin for a run for the Whitehouse !!!
