The Religious Support Behind Proposition 8
The most irreligious nations right now are among the most successful, while the most religious nations tend to be among the most destitute.

Speaking for my tiny little chunk of the liberal blogosphere, I don't like Joe Lieberman. I was disgusted by Hillary's campaign. And I couldn't be happier with Obama's decisions.
Religion in America has made homosexuality into a false bogeyman, which has seriously distracted religion from giving real values to an increasingly valueless society.
It's unfortunate that too many people in America are confused about the place of religion in a democracy. The tradition of this country, and one of th...
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation believes the prior harassment of Jewish soldier Handman, the subsequent reprimanding by drill sergeants, and Handman's beating were related.
I'm working on my Happiness Project, and you could have one, too! Everyone's project will look different, but it's the rare person who can't benefit. ...
James Dobson, you owe America an apology. The fictional letter released through your Focus on the Family Action organization, crosses all lines of decent public discourse.
The Catholic Church's commitment to excommunicating anyone who expresses support for the ordination of women is another manifestation of the church's continued demonization of women.
The truth is, spreading hate and intolerance is a business just like anything else. And in business, sometimes you're forced to make tough choices.
Under the thumb of right-wing religion, the Republican party became a bloated fool, stuffed with hypocrisy, greed, and anti-intellectualism. The price is now being paid through lost elections and a loss of public trust.
She tells me she is afraid, and will never return to the mosque, and I wonder what kind of country is this where people have to fear attending their place of worship?
So here we are, in 2008, and now the threat is gay people who are already gay, who love each other and in many cases live together, and want to get married. How does this hurt the average Mormon family?
Like every candidate, Obama must appeal to millions of voters who believe that without religion, most of us would spend our days raping and killing our neighbors and stealing their pornography.
Proposition 8 is on the California ballot for the sole purpose to take away rights already granted to same-gender couples.
The question remains how aspiring political figures will respond to the pastor problem of election 08 -- the bar has been raised. It is not enough to attend a place of worship -- you have to vet it.
This letter is from Kathryn Kolbert --among other things, it called the accusatory rhetoric of gay activists towards African Americans, "deeply wrong and offensive."

Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ is a progressive church on Western Avenue between DC and Maryland. Our ministers Rich Smith and Robert Maddox have already extended our hospitality to the Obama family as told in the November 8, 2008 New York Times:
"White House Memo":

"At the Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ, the Rev. Robert Maddox Jr., a onetime Carter adviser, has already sent a letter inviting the Obamas to join. "We"ve gotten word from the grapevine that they will not decide where they go to church until they get in and settled a bit," he said. "But they will obviously be looking for a place where their girls can be involved.""
We invite all families, not just the Obamas - churched, unchurched, single, straight, gay, - to join us for 10 AM Sunday Service. Ours is "the church of the open mind, a warm heart, the aspiring soul, and the social vision." Check us out at www.westmorelanducc.org !
I know which church he should not attend while he is in Chicago. Any church where the recently elevated Pastor borrows retirement 401K money from a faithful member of the congregation to buy his house and does not repay the loan after six years on an agreement that was supposed to be for nine months. That member loses both of his homes and his business to foreclosure as a result of not being paid back and that Pastor even attempts to extort profits from the members business with the support of his famous father. In the meantime the Pastor retains both of his homes. The member lives in financial ruin while the Pastor and his family are paid exorbitant salaries by the church and they live in the lap of luxury in the house that this member bought them that they never paid for. He should definitely not worship at a church with a Pastor like that whenever he is back in Chicago
I actually wanted to post a comment on Andy Borowitz's piece "Obama's Use of Complete Sentences Stirs Controversy". His writing is witty...plain hilarious! Sarah Palin's "rebuke" is so similar to the Alaska Gov. rhetorics. This piece is pure genius! Andy's comment entry is disabled...shame!

You know, to a certain point I can accept the obsession with every minute detail of Obama's life - slide show after slide show of his wife, his friends, his children, asking what dog they're gonna get, what school they're going to, what clothes his wife wears - I don't like it, but I can accept it. But this sort of voyueristic obsession with their church actually -offends- me (and I'm not even a churchgoer.)
Spirtually is -wholly- a personal decision, one of the very last absolutely personal things in a person's life and doesn't have to be shared with, or accepted by anyone! MSM (and we, the public) need to get our noses out of the Obama's religious life, this is unacceptable!!
Not our business. We hired him to govern the country. It doesn't give us the right to know where he worships. That's his business. Not ours. Get over it and deal with it.
