The clock doesn't run on lemons, it runs on the potential difference between zinc and copper. You still need to mine those metals and I have yet to see a green copper (or zinc) mine.... Who writes this stuff? As for the lemons? Orange juice, potatoes, grapefruit, or salt solutions would also work. Dried prunes.... maybe not so much.
